CLMCAA Hands Out 1,300 Food Boxes in St. Ignace, Sault Ste. Marie

A two-county food distribution in the Eastern Upper Peninsula handed out 1,300 boxes of food Thursday.

The Chippewa, Luce, Mackinac Community Action Action gave out 1,000 boxes in Sault Ste. Marie and 300 in St. Ignace.

Volunteers loaded up the food, and there was no financial requirement.

The agency uses the USDA Farmers to Food program because it helps our more than just the people who receive the boxes.

“This is not just helping out our community, it’s also helping out the farmers who have this excess that have not been able to sell because of the drop in purchasing over the last year because of COVID,” said Jessica Johnston of CLMCAA.

Johnston says there could be more events like Thursday’s event, depending on the need in the coming months.
