U.S. Capitol Police Report Details Security Failures Leading Up to Insurrection

A new internal report by the U.S. Capitol Police shows a number of missteps they took before the Jan. 6 insurrection.

It provides new information on security and intelligence failures during the riot at the Capitol building.

The report shows the Capitol Police had expired weapons that couldn’t be used and riot shields that were easily broken.

It also details training courses that were skipped and an intelligence division without set standards.

Conversations in the report show that official disagreed about calling on the National Guard to back up the understaffed force.
