Versiti Blood Center of Michigan is making an emergency appeal for blood donations.
Versiti reports that it has less than a days supply of blood in stock, and needs your help to keep hospitals stocked with blood needed for patients.
Without being able to host large blood drives, Versiti has had to rely on walk in or mobile blood donations, but hasn’t seen the same enthusiasm and numbers of donors it would like.
Versiti is asking for all blood types, but say it’s seen a critical need for O blood types, as O negative can be transfused safely to any other blood type in case of emergency.
“Really, you’re just helping your fellow community member, you never know when there might be a car accident or one of your neighbors or family members might be getting a surgery that’s required,” said Brig Cutter, manager of donor services for Versiti. “We just want to make sure that we’re always there for them and just calling on donors to come on in.”
