Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance Reacts to MIOSHA’s COVID Workplace Restriction Extension

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration has extended its emergency rules regarding workplace environments.

This six-month extension includes the rule that prohibits office work for employees whose jobs can be done remotely.

The Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance says its partners across northern Michigan have been pushing for loosening of those restrictions, and were disappointed by the extension, but will continue to advise and support its local businesses until they can return in person.

“We want our businesses to be able to operate in their offices, in person, you know, with the necessary safety protocols in place,” said Kirstie Sieloff, Director of Government Relations for Traverse Connect/ NMCA. “We know that it’s going to take all of us working together to get back to that point. So we’ll continue our advocacy efforts and working with our business community.”

MIOSHA’s extension can be modified before six months if conditions surrounding the pandemic improve.
