Indiana Woman Leads Kalkaska Deputies on Bizarre Chase

Police arrested an Indiana woman late Monday morning after leading police on a bizarre chase in Kalkaska County.

Police responded to a suspicious vehicle call, leading to a chase along northbound M-66 and eventually leaving the road along M-72, where the driver continued through a field, eventually crashing.

Officers say the woman made threats of a bomb in the vehicle, but after the woman’s car began filling with smoke officers were forced to risk-assess, and then save the woman from the vehicle

Police surrounded the vehicle when the driver said she had a bomb in the truck.

Deputies set up a perimeter and say they could see the driver drift in and out of consciousness as smoke filled the truck.

The woman eventually gave up. A bomb squad did not find any explosives.

Deputies say the truck was stolen out of Wayland.

The 31 year old woman awaits charges of fleeing police and possession of a stolen vehicle.
