The Chippewa County Health Department is teaming up with the Lake Carriers Association in vaccinating all those working on the freighters that pass through the Soo Locks.

Monday morning, workers on the Honorable James l. Oberstar were able to receive the Johnson & Johnson one-time vaccine or a second dose of the other vaccines.

“The shipping industry is just huge….not just to our community but to our state and nation in general.  We want to help and make sure  that people that come through our areas are able to get vaccinated if possible and keep these crew members healthy,” said Karen Senkus, Chippewa Co. Health Department.

This is the sixth crew on freighters since last Tuesday.

Senkus expects more companies to use their services.
