Indian River’s Streetscape Project Close to Completion

After 10 years of planning, Indian River in Tuscarora Township is close to finish their Streetscape Project.

Construction delays due to COVID-19 slowed down the 2.2 million dollar project, but soon the community will look like a different place. They’ve replaced street lights, sidewalks, removed telephone poles, and plan to install benches, trash cans, and bike racks along Straits Highway. The road itself will also be repaved.

The town sits in the middle of a trail system and inland waterway and Director of the Downtown Development Authority, Dawn Bodnar said it makes them a popular destination. “We have so many great things to do, but we just didn’t– the town wasn’t up to par,” she said. “It wasn’t looking beautiful, so I think when people come back this summer and see it, they’re going to be really happy.”

If everything goes according to plan, the project should be completed by July 4.
