Missaukee County Murder-Suicide Investigation Continues
The investigation into a weekend homicide continues in Missaukee County.
State Police say the suspect in the case took his own life after running from and shooting at police.
It all started around 8 Saturday night when State Police were asked to do a welfare check at a Missaukee County home.
They say when they got to the home on North Seven Mile in West Branch Township, they found the homeowner dead.
Cadillac police spotted the suspect’s vehicle around 1 Sunday morning and when they tried to stop him, the suspect took off.
Troopers say several shots were fired at police during the chase before spike strips were used to stop the car near the intersection of M-55 and M-66 in Missaukee County.
That’s when the suspect ran off to a nearby golf course.
State Police say they later found him and it appeared he took his own life.
“Autopsies are being done on both the victim and the suspect to determine exact cause of death. They’ll also be waiting on toxicology reports on them as well, and we’re just going through the process of making sure we have all the information, all the evidence collected before we come to any conclusions,” said Lt. Derrick Carroll with the Michigan State Police.
No names have been released, but State Police say the victim and the suspect in the case were related.
