Firefighters Working To Put Out Grass Fire In Chippewa County

Firefighters are working to put an out of control grass fire in Chippewa County.

The fire spread quickly Sunday afternoon on 10 Mile Road in Chippewa County’s Dafter Township.

Firefighters responded to reports of the fire that was threatening a couple of structures around 3 p.m.

Within a hour, a barn was destroyed and several acres of land were torched.

A home-owner says that she was burning cat tails around her pond when the fire spread.

Air and ground crews from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources assisted the Dafter Township Fire Department.

Crews are currently on the scene working to contain the fire.
