A northern Michigan fire department has new tools to help fight the spread of COVID-19 and keep their first responders safe.

The Frederic Fire Department in Crawford County just received an AeroClave system.

It’s used to disinfect their ambulance, living quarters and fire station.

They also received personal protective equipment to use while caring for COVID-19 patients.

“This pandemic is still on the rise. We all need to do our part. And for us, it gives us a sense of security for our employees, but also, more so, for the citizens, our township is what’s important to us. This is another tool that we’ve added to our arsenal so that we can combat and do our part to combat the coronavirus,” said Allen Ballard, PIO for the Frederic Township Fire Department.

The fire department received the new equipment thanks to a grant and help from the Region 7 Health Care Coalition and Munson hospitals in Traverse City, Gaylord and Grayling.
