MSP Says Kidnapping, Sexual Assault and Escape Near Elmira Never Happened

In this update out of Otsego County, after a woman claimed she had been kidnapped and raped there last week, terrifying the community and sending police on a manhunt, police now say—it never happened.

On Friday, the woman said she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a man at gunpoint.

After investigating, state police say it did not happen and the public is in no danger.

Michigan State Police Lieutenant Derrick Carroll says, “We take all reports of crime serious. We throw all the resources we have to solve these crimes and sometimes they lead you in one direction sometimes they lead you another but first and foremost is our dedication to the people of Northern Michigan.”

The investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
