Michigan Health Officials Report 5,177 New Coronavirus Cases, 48 Deaths

Michigan health officials are reporting 5,177 new cases of the coronavirus and 48 additional COVID-19 deaths. Of those deaths, 20 were from a vital records review.

Michigan continues to see a sharp increase in daily cases compared to weeks before.

Sunday and Monday averaged 4,101 new cases per day. Last week Thursday had 5,224 new cases, the state’s highest so far this year. But the week before that, cases averaged 2,000 per day.

In total, Michigan has reached 665,948 cases and 16,082 deaths since the pandemic began.

Recoveries number 569,460 as of March 26. The state defines ‘recovered’ as the number of persons with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who are alive 30 days post-onset (or referral date if onset is not available).
