Child Abuse, Neglect Goes Unreported During Pandemic

The pandemic is causing more child abuse cases to go unreported.

In 2020, there were 400,000 fewer reports of child-welfare concerns and 200,000 fewer reports of abuse and neglect compared to the year before.

COVID-19 has kept children home and away from places that might normally report these cases, like schools and daycare.

Lockdowns and restrictions have also impacted safety nets in the system and forced agencies to only focus on the most urgent cases.
