Easter is just a few weeks away, and one woman is helping the Easter Bunny make her rounds to Petoskey kids in need.

“It makes me happy to be able to know that there’s going to be kids out there that are going to be smiling on Easter,” said Moon Meade.

Meade, dubbed “The Easter Lady” had the idea to give candy and Easter goodies to families in need.

“It is coronavirus, and I just want the kids happy,” she said.

She first took to the corner of Anderson and US 131 to raise funds to utilize a nearby park to hand out her Easter baskets.

“I really wanted this to happen,” said Meade. “I had a desire, I had a want, and this is how I made it happen for the first two days.”

But after not getting permission from the health department to hold the event, the Easter Lady was determined to make something happen.

“I got donations, I kept telling people on Facebook, my coworkers and my family,” she said.

While wearing her festive ribbon skirt, Meade will hand deliver the baskets to families who have reached out to her looking for help.

“I started buying up all those eggs from the Dollar Store and candy,” she said. “You’ve got your chocolates, your Reese’s, Kit Kat’s, Skittles, Hersey Kisses.”

She runs entirely on donations, and she says even if people can’t donate, their support means the world.

“Just the positivity still keeps my drive going or being able to get this done,” she said.
