Lake Co. Investigates Lumber Theft, Thanks Suspect for Leaving Behind Cellphone, DNA Evidence

The Lake County sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of $20,000 to $30,000 worth of building materials.

They say at least one suspect left behind a cellphone and DNA—which might make it easier to find and tie suspects to the crime.

Lumber and building materials were taken in Newkirk Township sometime between March 19 and March 22.

The sheriff’s office says any information can be passed along to Deputy Perrin or Detective Lt. Nixon at (231) 745-2712.

With a hint of humor, the department also said on Facebook, “To the person or persons involved, thank you for leaving your cell phone and your DNA behind. We appreciate things that make our job easier. Please save us the trouble of looking and just turn yourself in.”
