MDOT Boats Named 2021 Infrastructure Gamechangers by The American Society of Civil Engineers
The American Society of Civil Engineers is recognizing the Michigan Department of Transportation for its use of unmanned boats.
The society put MDOT on its 2021 Infrastructure Gamechanger list.
MDOT used remote controlled boats with sonar equipment to inspect bridges across the state.
They say it’s much safer and less labor-intensive than using traditional vessels.
MDOT started using these boats back in 2016.
