Grant Me Hope: Jalen
Not quite sure what he might do with it, but Jalen wishes for a giant doughnut, perhaps to slip around his waist to protect him should he spill while roller skating. Maybe he’d satisfy his sweet tooth while playing his favorite game, Apples to Apples. Or, would a husky – Jalen’s favorite animal – want to chow on a doughnut before a dog-sled race? Maybe it’s because he loves cooking and baking. Still, you can bet dollars to doughnuts that it’s got little to do with his future career plans since Jalen wants to be a veterinarian or a chef when he gets older. Regardless, Jalen prefers pizza as his favorite food and red as his favorite color. He loves futzing with computers after school and enjoys pitching in around the house. If he could visit anywhere, Jalen would go to CJ Barrymore’s because, in his words, “It has been a long time.” This “worldly” young man likes playing basketball and video games and enjoys having fun. His faith is very important to Jalen, and he enjoys attending church regularly. Jalen dreams of a future forever family who loves him for who he is and will play with him.
“Jalen is sweet, playful and carries a beautiful, deep sense of empathy,” says one the adults close to him. “Jalen is very kind and tender-hearted.” He does best with structure and routine and would benefit from guidance at times. “Jalen enjoys math in school as well as gym class,” a person close to him says.
Jalen’s new forever family must be patient and understanding as he works through his past. He’d do best with parents who are patient and trauma-informed. His new family must be strong advocates for the services that will help Jalen thrive at home and in school. Jalen also would do best as the only child in the home.
