USPS Invites Workers to Retire Early

United States Postal Service workers will now be allowed to retire early.

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy says the option is part of the post office’s second phase of changes.

DeJoy says those voluntary retirements along with other consolidations will improve efficiency.

It’s unclear how early retirements will save the postal service much money.

The organization has to set aside billions every year for a congressional requirement to prefund pensions for retirees.

But a bill that could change that rule is currently circulating in Congress.
