Pope Francis: Trip to Iraq Still on Despite Recent Bombings
Pope Francis confirmed Wednesday that he will still carry on with a three-day trip to Iraq starting Friday despite the recent attacks.
Pope Francis said that he cannot disappoint the Iraqi people again, in reference to a trip planned by Pope John Paul II that was canceled.
This trip will be the first ever papal visit to the country and it’ll be a busy one.
He’s scheduled to visit six cities in three days and has plans to sit down with a top Shia religious leader.
There are concerns not only about security but also about super spreader events as COVID-19 cases rise in Iraq.
