When American Heroes head out the door to serve their country, they have to leave their families behind, including their furry family members. And, with many programs around the U.S. focused on keeping humans connected, sometimes man’s best friend is forgotten. To make sure that doesn’t happen, Dogs on Deployment is there to offer assistance to military pet owners. This nation-wide program’s mission “…is to give America’s Heroes peace of mind concerning their pets during their service commitments by providing them with the ability to find people and resources for them”.

Master Sgt. Hector Rivera and his dog, Kanoh, were separated for seven months while he was on tour with the Air Force in Kuwait. While he was gone, Kanoh was fostered through Dogs on Deployment. “I didn’t know how he was going to react, to be honest with you,” Rivera said after seeing his dog for the first time in months. “I got teary, really teary”.
