Menu Monday: Shipwreck Café Combines Handcrafted Sandwiches with Great Lakes History

They’re known for their handcrafted sandwiches and appreciation of Great Lakes history.  The Shipwreck Café in Leelanau County’s Empire might be19575171 127580814499123 6575951686739564663 O small but their commitment to community is mighty.

Owners, Steve and Jennifer Nowicki opened the café in 2017 to create a lunch spot for people in the Village of Empire.

“We were always looking for someplace to grab a quick lunch, and there was nothing in the area. So, we thought we’d open up a sandwich shop here. Everybody’s always asking about it,” says Steve Nowicki.

Each sandwich on their menu is named after a shipwreck in the Great Lakes and created from scratch each day. The business also features homemade soups and salads.

State guidelines are banning dining-in at restaurants, but Shipwreck Café does to-go orders and curbside pick-up.
