The Bay Theatre Thriving with Community’s Support

Theaters across the country have slowly been reopening their doors to guests once again. The Bay Community Theatre in Suttons Bay had their doors sealed shut for four months during the on-going pandemic. With community support and generosity, this cinema knew they would make it through.

Rick Andrews, the President of the non-profit behind The Bay says, “We never thought we wouldn’t be reopening again. I think a lot of theaters like ours would have been worried about complete going under and not being able to survive.”

People have been craving the cinema for months. Although their doors are open their seats aren’t full. They are limited to 25% capacity and even that can be hard to fill. “50 people in here is a good amount of people but the reality is we’re not even hitting 50 people at this point. We get 10 people in, 20, 25, and that’s fine,” explains Andrews.

In an uncertain world, we could all use a sweet escape from reality, even if it’s just for a few hours. “I think it’s more about escape and enjoyment than anything else. You can step in here and in 2 or 3 hours you’re in another world,” says Andrews.

If you are interested in supporting the theatre at this time, they are offering membership and donor opportunities, as well as private showings.
