Nessel, Benson Clear-Up Voting Misconceptions

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Attorney General Dana Nessel held a virtual event Monday afternoon to discuss making sure everyone who’s registered to vote is able to do so on Election Day.

Secretary Benson says all polling places will be set up to assist voters with disabilities.

Attorney General Nessel says there are very few restrictions on who can register to vote in Michigan.

“The only limitation at all would be if you are currently incarcerated and you are under sentence. Those are the only people that cannot vote due to some sort of criminal offense. Everyone else can, and I think it’s very critical that we get the word out to everyone because a lot of people think, well, I have a criminal record so I’m not eligible and nothing could be further from the truth,” Nessel said.

Both Nessel and Benson say they’re doing everything possible to make sure the election is safe and secure.
