Virtual Local Gov’t Meetings Allowed to Continue Under State COVID-19 Relief Legislation
Another part of the state COVID-19 relief bills allows local governments to continue with virtual meetings.
They say their council chambers are small as it is and spreading all council members out to a safe distance would leave little room for the public to attend.
The city manager says keeping meetings virtual is also the best move for everyone’s safety.
“It allows for the public to be able to continue to participate in public meetings of all kinds, and to do so in a virtual manner, which at this point in time we’re being told is the safest manner in which to do so,” said City Manager Marcus Peccia.
Traverse City and the Village of Kalkaska were forced to cancel meetings Monday since executive orders allowing virtual meetings were ruled invalid and no legislation had passed yet allowing them.
