Grow Benzie Offers Great Space for People Chasing their Dreams

Last week on ‘the four’ we introduced you to Grow Benzie. A modern-day community center serving Benzie County and beyond. Essentially people from all across Northern Michigan have access to free meeting/study spaces, a big commercial kitchen, event space, a community garden, a hoop house, maker/sewing studios, and plenty of classes/workshops.

A big draw for many is the commercial kitchen. Tim and Melanie Griffith are caterers at Mel and Fell and serve several counties while using the incubator kitchen weekly. Tim Griffith says, “This space is really important because it really builds community for people. It gives a lot of people like us who have dreams of growing a business access to that.”

Another opportunity for growing businesses is the incubator farm/hoop house. Carol Bontekoe of New Dawn Fields is working on growing her farming business. This space is giving her the opportunity to build her business before she has the financial means to purchase her own land. In addition, there are community plots to rent out each season as well for gardeners looking to get their hands dirty but aren’t looking to make a business out of it.
