Attorney General Nessel Warns of Deceptive Practices by Those Gathering Petition Signatures

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says people in Michigan should be on the lookout for people trying to deceive you into signing petitions.

Nessel says her office has received complaints about petition boosters misleading the public about what their petition entails.

In one report, a woman said she was told the petition she was signing in Detroit was to support the LGBTQ community.

She later learned it was to repeal the 1945 Emergency Powers of the Governor Act.

Nessel says, “I urge voters to read before you sign your name so that you can be sure your support is being directed to the right places.”
