There’s no such thing as too much color according to Northern Michigan artist, Karla Haan. We learned more about her in this week’s Artist Profile, and how she translates nature’s beauty onto canvas.

Who are you?

I’m originally from Monterrey, Mexico. I moved to Michigan when I married my husband and I have a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. I now teach at the school of New Covenant Christian Academy in Interlochen.

How did you get started?

I started when I was just a little girl. I loved to draw and paint. I went to college for graphic arts and took classes to learn more about drawing and painting.

What are your favorite mediums?

I like to use acrylic, but I like to meet it with other techniques – like oil pastels, acrylic ink. I like to experiment, and I’m always constantly searching for something new.

What inspires you?

I love nature. My inspiration comes from butterflies, flowers, insects, the colors from the insects.

What do you hope people get from your pieces?

Love, happiness, joy, the beauty of nature.
