What’s Growing With Tom: Late Summer Lawn Care

Summer is almost over northern Michigan, but we’re not quite there yet!

All the hard work we’ve done the last few years have resulted in an incredible lawn.

We want to keep it looking great and Labor Day is almost here. That means it’s time to fertilizer.

We’ve been using for a few years and, for the lawn, using Safe Green Lawn.  It comes in granulated form with Dairy Doo and minerals already in it.

Every time we spread it, organic material is being added to the lawn.  Justin Morgan says we are feeding the grass from the bottom up: roots to grass!  Best way to do that is three times a year: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day.

Putting down the Safe Green Lawn is very easy with a spreader and the settings on the bag.  Those who are looking for results not in a few weeks but days, you can always go with a liquid.

has a product called Turf Blaster. It’s a dark, thick liquid that has kelp from North Dakota in it. It helps build up immunity in the grasses, keeping it strong during our tough summers!

Key thing is to keep the mix correct at the 2.5 gallon jug with 25 gallons of water. Once you’ve set your sprayers, you just drive around and let the misters do their job.

All it takes is a couple of minutes. It takes time but results are incredible. The same goes for our garden. We work on it all the time and it’s given us great vegetables.

Next week, we’ll be here getting things ready for next season.
