Michigan Legislature Cancels Sessions After Senator Tests Positive for COVID-19

Michigan’s Legislature will not meet this week after a Lansing area senator tested positive for the coronavirus. Mi Senator

Republican Senator Tom Barret of Charlotte says he doesn’t have “any significant symptoms” and will be self-isolating.

The legislature cancelled Thursday’s voting session and hearings set for Wednesday and Thursday as a precaution.

Barret has been critical of Governor Whitmer’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.

He also sponsored a bill that would repeal a 1945 law to limit her emergency powers.
