Education Advocacy Group: Shield Low-Income Students From Pandemic Budget Cut

An education advocacy group wants to make sure Michigan’s low-income students are properly funded as potential budget cuts loom.

The campaign is called Opportunity For All.

It includes business and local leaders, along with Royal Oak-based Education Trust-Midwest.

They’re calling on the state to shield poor students from the brunt of potential funding cuts, instead of making an across-the-board reduction to school aid.

The group calls for equal cuts if necessary, with funding protected for English language learners and children with disabilities as well.

The state of Michigan faces potential education losses of more than a billion dollars for fiscal year 2021.
