Michigan Still Waiting for White House to Declare Sanford a Major Disaster to Receive Recovery Funds

There is still no word from the White House regarding emergency funding for the village of Sanford.

It and nearby communities were devastated by 500-year floods after two dam failures in May.

On June 15, Governor Whitmer asked President Trump to declare a major disaster for the area.

The designation would open up federal funds to support recovery.

She still has not heard back about that request.

State legislation to give the Midland area $6 million for recovery is sitting in committee; the legislature adjourned for the summer.
