No Body Contact Advisory Issued for Grand Traverse Co. Beaches

A no body contact advisory has been issued for several Grand Traverse County beaches after a pump failure released untreated sewage into the Boardman River.

The health department says the pump failure happened during Thursday’s flash flooding.

The resulted in untreated sewage being released into the Boardman River from a sewer manhole near the intersection of North Union and Front streets.

A no body contact advisory has been issued for surface waters at Clinch Park Beach, Sunset Park Beach, Bryant Park Beach and Traverse City Senior Center Beach.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has been contacted.

The advisory is in effect until further notice.
