Northern Michigan From Above: Salties

The St. Marys River in the eastern Upper Peninsula is home to national and international shipping.

The international freighters are called “salties” because their voyage comes across the Atlantic Ocean to pick up and drop off cargo from western Lake Superior.

In Northern Michigan From Above, Jim Lehocky shows us just a few of the salties that have made their way from the other side of the globe through Sault Ste. Marie.
