The Michigan Department of Transportation is getting started on a new construction project Monday.

US-131 is getting resurfaced just north of Boyne Falls.

About 8.4 miles are being done from Thumb Lake Road to Bear River Road.

This is a $2.2 million project that’s expected to be complete by the end of July, according to MDOT Communications Representative James Lake.

“The road itself is in relatively good condition, and we want to put a new driving surface down to get several more years of life out of it,” Lake says. “So crews will be making pavement repairs and then following up with that by grinding off the top layer of the old pavement and putting down a new layer of asphalt.”
