Houghton Lake Teacher Receives Regional Teacher of the Year Award

10 teachers from around the state of Michigan received Regional Teacher of the Year awards from the Michigan Department of Education for the 2020-2021 school year.

Houghton Lake teacher David Bunn was the finalist selected to represent region two.

Bunn is a biology teacher who also helps with the STEM program at Houghton Lake High School.

Teachers were chosen based on their dedication to teaching and commitment to their students.

The 10 teachers were selected from more than 400 Teacher of the Year nominations from students, staff and community members from around the state.

“I see so many great things going on here and so I would never put myself in that spot but it was very rewarding.  A lot of the emails and calls that I have gotten from former students has probably been the best,” said Bunn.

Now, the 10 finalists will be interviewed by a panel of education stakeholders.

One will be chosen to represent Michigan as Teacher of the Year.
