2020 Engineers Day in Sault Ste. Marie Canceled
Another major local summer event is canceled in due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The annual Engineers Day in Sault Ste. Marie was officially canceled in an announcement Tuesday morning by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Several thousand people attend the event that allows visitors to go inside the Soo Locks to see the freighters up close, along with many other attractions.
“It’s the biggest event that we have in the summertime. You know, when you have 8,000-10,000 people here, you fill the whole area. Not just here, also regionally. It’s going to hurt,” said Linda Hoath, executive director at the Sault Ste. Marie Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Hoath hopes that the event will be rescheduled later in the summer, but with uncertainty of the pandemic it is not possible to set a definite date at this time.
