Sugar Island Ferry Workers Honored for Saving Girl
In January, two Sugar Island Ferry workers rescued a girl that slipped into the water on an icy bank at Osborn Park.
On Wednesday, the Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste Marie presented a Certificate of Merit to Captain Dale Rosenbaum and deckhand Phil Roy.
Rosenbaum saw the girl floating in the river and Roy heard the girl cry for help.
They, along with passengers on the ferry, pulled the girl to safety.
“I feel great! It’s a good feeling we did what we did and that we were there at the time that she needed us. So it’s a good feeling,” said Rosenbaum.
Rosenbaum says the crew occasionally sees the girl that was saved and her family on the ferry since the accident.
