Big Rapids City Clerk Explains Process for Changing Vote on Absentee Ballot As Candidates Drop from Race

With several presidential candidates dropping out of the race on the Democratic side, you may have already returned an absentee ballot for one of them.

But there’s still time to get a new ballot and vote for a candidate still in the race.

You can request a new ballot be mailed to you in writing up until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday.

You can do it in person up until 4:00 P.M. on Monday.

There is no option to change your absentee ballot on Election Day once it has been received by the clerk.

“At the last primary season four years ago we did have quite and few and that’s when the state came down and said yes you can. It might get a little complicated on the Monday before because I’m sure a lot of clerks are out in the precincts setting up their equipment but they usually have deputies or assistants,” said Big Rapids City Clerk Tamyra Gillis.

Michigan is expected to see an overall rise in the number of absentee voters in this primary election.
