Mason County District Library Is Going Fine Free
The Mason County District Library is getting ready to go fine free.
The new policy will be for both locations in Scottville and Ludington.
They’ve already done away with fines on children’s items.
The fine free policy extends to adult books starting March 1st.
That means the library will forgive all current fines and won’t charge any new ones.
“What we know from already doing this with children’s books is that fines become a barrier, and when you tell you people to bring their items back and then charge on top of that it, becomes a barrier for people to bring those things back,” said library Director Eric Smith.
The library says they’ll be forgiving about $4,100 in fines.
