Ludington Man Accused of Stealing From SS Badger Ferry Company

A Ludington man is accused of stealing from the SS Badger Ferry company.

The U.S. Department of Justice says Paul Piper was the longtime financial controller for Lake Michigan Carferry, the company that operates the SS Badger.

They say Piper defrauded a number of institutions of at least $550,000.

They added he either forged signatures or used a signature stamp without authorization from those companies’ owners.

Piper also filed false income tax returns, according to the Justice Department.

He’s now charged with bank fraud and federal income tax offenses.

If convicted, Piper faces up to 30 years in prison.
