Charlevoix Public Library Set to Reopen After Weekend Fire

A fire over the weekend caused the Charlevoix Public Library to temporarily close to deal with damage.

The library says the fire started early Saturday morning.

They say it started in a closet where a humidifier malfunctioned and caught fire.

The facilities manager says the sprinkler system quickly activated, putting out the fire.

Sprinklers then ran, until the fire department arrived.

The library says they have some fire damage, but mostly water damage from the sprinklers.

“We feel pretty lucky that the bulk of the library was totally undamaged,” said Library Director Ryan Deery. “We are not lucky to have had a fire, but lucky that the damage was so minimal.”

No books or technology was damaged.

The library says they plan to reopen Tuesday, with some restoration work still in progress
