Kalkaska Winterfest Returns this Weekend

A celebration of the season: Kalkaska’s Winterfest returns this weekend.

The state’s biggest sprint dog sled race will bring teams from all over the state, country, and world. Dogs will be running in Kalkaska starting Saturday morning.

Afterwards, community organizers hope the town can come together in the evening for more outdoor fun.

This year, they’re putting together a fat tire bike, snowshoeing and cross country ski route to utilize the trails that have already been groomed for the dogs.

“We figured let’s get some fat bikes and some skis and some snow shoes out there to also enjoy the trail,” said organizer Sarah Johnson. “We figure it’s a way to get the community together in a non-dog racing way.”
