Valentine’s Day is right around the corner so the countdown begins to find that perfect gift for your sweetie. Grocer’s Daughter in Empire is a chocolate shop dedicated to sustainable farming and letting the natural cacao flavor shine. You can say bye-bye to all the sugar you find in your average bar of chocolate!

D.C. Hayden, Co-owner of Grocer’s Daughter says, “You’re going to have a darker, more intense chocolate flavor here and for us being involved in chocolate and being confectioners we just want people to come in and have a genuine chocolate experience.”

Chocolate is a commodity product and many often forget where their chocolate comes from. Starting as a fruit, it goes through many hands before it ends up in yours. D.C. Hayden says, “Chocolate has been undervalued for a very long time and so it’s really important that farmers get a good dollar for their chocolate.”

This couple makes their way down to Ecuador each year to make sure they’re taking responsibility for the ethics of their chocolate from fruit to finished truffle in their shop. “For me, I love to connect consumers to what they’re eating and the story of what they’re eating,” explains co-owner Jody Hayden.
