President Donald Trump in Michigan yet again, this time touting the country’s new trade agreement with the rest of North America.

Since he was first elected, President Trump wanted to put an end to the North American Free Trade Agreement and he finally did by signing a new deal, the United States, Mexico, Canada Agreement Wednesday.

“NAFTA was the worst trade deal probably ever made by any country,” he said.

Michigan key to President Trump’s victory in 2016, and he says while campaigning for office, he saw what he calls one of Michigan’s biggest issues.

“I didn’t know too much about the car industry but I did know you were losing so many jobs,” he says. “They were going to other countries and I said how the hell do you let that happen?”

Out goes NAFTA and in slides the USMCA, a plan he says will level the playing field and bring jobs to Michigan and the rest of the country.

“We have a lot to so so we’re going to get a lot more car companies in, we got a lot more companies moving in,” President Trump said. “We’re producing jobs like you’ve never seen before in this country.”

The president says this agreement will bring millions of jobs to America and possibly hundreds of thousands to Michigan. Opponents say he’s exaggerating.

“I’m here to make sure that Trump remembers that he broke his promise to the people of Michigan and let him know that Michigan families deserve better,” says Annika Doner of Priorities Michigan.

“The lies,” protester Nancy Smith says. “Over 13,000 lies, and yet the Republicans seem to think that’s OK.”

If the plan does boost the American auto industry, the ripple will be felt across the state.

“As you get up into the upper lower and into the UP, there are second and third tier suppliers who make parts,” says Rep. Jack Bergman of Michigan’s First District. “Depending on how specialized they are. The bottom line is they have jobs, small businesses, that will feed the rest of the industry down here in the southeast.”

“Now they’re all coming back because they want to be where the action is,” President Trump says. “And the action is in our country and in this state.”
