Healthy Living: New Travel Identification Rules

New rules are going into effect this year at the airport.

In 2005, the Real ID Act was passed by Congress in order to set standards for state-issued driver licenses and ID.

The act was passed from recommendations from the 9-11 commission report.

That means you’re going to need a new ID to get through airport security.

Whitney Amann told us what we need to know in this Healthy Living.

Come Oct. 1, you will need a Real ID to pass through airport security which means it needs to have a gold star on the top right corner.

If you do not have a Real ID when it has come time to fly, you can board the plane with a passport, military ID, or a state issues enhanced license.

You must renew your license in person and you will need a valid license, birth certificate, certificate of naturalization and citizenship such as your social security card or paycheck, plus two different documents for proof of address.

The deadline to change your ID may be extended, so be sure to check with your local secretary of state.
