Roscommon County Families Receive Military Honors

Two Northern Michigan families were presented with medals Friday for service of their loved ones in the U.S. Army.

Congressman John Moolenaar was on hand for the presentation.

Raymond Schwarze served in WWII from 1943 to 1946.

He was also in Normandy.

He received nine medals including The Purple Heart and The Bronze Star.

Ray Brinkman served in Vietnam and received 16 medals including The Bronze Star.

Their families say it was a tremendous honor.

“It’s wonderful because he never talked about it, we never knew any of this. I mean I didn’t find out about Normandy or anything until I looked at his discharge papers. So it was a total shock to see all of this that he was receiving,” said Raymond’s daughter Karen Williams.
