Newberry Basement Fire, Troopers Help Man Find Dog

The Michigan State Police says a man received help from troopers during an early-morning fire in Newberry.

Troopers were called to the home on Co Road 363 in Pentland Township just after midnight on Friday.

They say a man, the only person inside, was awoken by the fire. He and originally escaped the home safely, but was trying to find his dog.

Three troopers arrived before fire crews and MSP reports they went into the burning building to help the man find his dog in the basement, where the fire started.

They say both the man and his dog are OK.

Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire in the basement.
