Winter is in full force, so ice fishermen are ready to hit the lakes and being part of a tournament is even better.
This Saturday Hoppie’s Tavern in Cheboygan is hosting their 16th annual ice fishing tournament.
They have three categories, and give anglers from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to get the heaviest catch in each category.
It’s a highlight each year for Hoppie’s, and raises money for the local fire department.
The owner says they aim to be a tournament for the family to enjoy.
“I’ve seen a lot of guys with their 5-year-old son and now they’re coming—kids are 16 and driving,” said Hoppie’s Tavern Owner Bob Babcock. “You see the kids and family interact, it’s a great time.”
