Two Killed in Kalkaska Co. House Fire

A tragic fire on Thursday killed two people and leveled their house in Kalkaska County.

The sheriff says the couple died inside trying to save their pets.

The fire broke out at a home on Mitchell road in Kalkaska Township just after midnight, Thursday morning.

At first, emergency crews were told the two people who lived in the home got out safely.

When first responders got there they said it looked like Brian and Sheryl Curry had gone back into the flames to try and rescue their pets.

Deputies and firefighters tried to rescue the couple — but had to pull back for their own safety.

Later they found the Curry’s dead in the home.

Investigators are still looking into what caused the fire.
