Casinos Expect to Receive Online Sports Betting Licenses by Spring of 2021

Sports betting is now legal in Michigan, but it might be a year before casinos can get online licenses.

Bipartisan legislation passed the Michigan Congress and was signed by Gov. Whitmer in December, making sports betting legal in the state.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board says its goal is to authorize in-person sports wagers by this spring.

But it estimates it will take another year to write and finalize rules for online.

So by spring of 2020, sports bettors should be able to place wagers in person. But they will have to wait until 2021 to do it online.
